The value of trees in our consumer-driven society is alarmingly low. Cheap imports from obscure third-world sources means that everybody can purchase wooden household items for pennies. No questions asked about their origin. Considerable environmental destruction is a likely contribution to the production of such mass-produced items. Trees take many years to grow and provide enormous environmental and sociological benefits. I sometimes try to persuade my clients to re-think their planned tree-removal, even if this means they may take the job somewhere else. Trees, despite all the rules and regulations, are still quite unprotected within the UK. The short description of origin added to each bowl in the gallery section is an attempt to honour the trees from which they were made. The trees need and deserve this.
